It's Gonna Be Rough...

Aw, Ashley, you poor thing! Sounds like you have a pretty hard first day. I'm pretty sure mine won't be much easier...I'm getting nervous...school starts Monday! Call if you need a listening ear!

So, does everyone wanna hear something that'll make you sick? 75% of the students' grade in reading is solely based on how they do on FCAT practice tests (the FL-wide standardized test) since the school is on watch for not making AYP. That's all this school talks about is making AYP, which makes sense since they're on watch, but still...I'm pretty sure all I'll be doing is testing =(

That's terrible! One thing I didn't say in my last post was that my school is the only one in our cluster that consistently makes AYP. On our first day of in-service, the principal presented this fancy PowerPoint of the test scores from last year, and 99% of the 5th graders (kids I now have) passed the LA section...only two in the whole school failed. The percent for math was 94%. Almost 1/6 of the school's population is on special transfer from other schools in our cluster because of test scores. It's a blessing and a curse. Everybody tells us what a great school it is....as a first year teacher, I'm SCARED TO DEATH that my kids won't pass. The pressure is so high, but in a different kind of way. Believe it or not, I feel your pain (although that grading situation is ridiculous!).
